Easy, with a Discount

I’ve got a few new patterns in the works, but in the meantime, here is a discount on an easy project, good for a beginner or for using up scraps or just for when you need some mindless crochet. Use Coupon Code EASY on Ravelry for 50% off the price of Easy Like Sunday Morning, bringing the price to $3.49 – good for a limited time, expires March 31, 2021. I was reminded of this pattern by a recent lovely version completed by Grandma10 on Ravelry.

Happy Holidays!

2020 has been a rough year, but I think we can see some hope in the distance as the vaccine is distributed. As a frontline healthcare worker, I received mine last week, and while I did feel my immune response kick in with a mild headache and fatigue for a day or two, I am so happy to be part of the beginning of the end of this pandemic.

I wish you and your families a Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Hannukah, and Happy New Year to all who celebrate. I love to knit a quick hat for gifts this time of year, and I wrote out this pattern for a quick beanie that has proven to be very popular – get your free copy of Amanda Beanie on Ravelry with Coupon Code Amanda, and if you post a photo of your finished hat on a Ravelry Project Page I will send you any free pattern from my Rav Store – offer good until March 31, 2021. On Etsy, I’m unable to offer it for free but it is included in the 50% off sale.

And don’t forget the END OF YEAR SALE in my Ravelry Store and Etsy Shop now through January 15, 2021 – use Coupon Code BOGO20 in either shop. Put two patterns or e-books in cart, enter Coupon Code BOGO20 and on Ravelry the lesser-priced pattern is free. On Etsy there will be 50% off the entire cart. May use more than once. Thanks for your support in 2020 and hoping for good health and happiness to you all in 2021.

Buffalo Plaid Square

Buffalo Plaid Square by Julie Yeager Designs

Materials
Yarn: A: Bright Blue B: Aqua C: Cream , I used Scheepjes Stone Washed and River Washed. (Choose a dark color for A, a light color for C, and a mixture of the two for B. For example, a classic buffalo plaid of A. Black, B. Maroon, and C. Red)

Hook: I (5.5 mm) crochet hook, recommend 1 size larger than usual for your yarn.

Pattern uses U.S. crochet terms. Ch-3 counts as dc.

Abbreviations: beg – beginning ch – chain dc – double crochet sc –
single crochet sk – skip sl – slip st – stitch sp – space tr – treble crochet

Instructions:
In Round 2 and all subsequent rounds, corners are worked in two stitches with (2 dc, tr) in one stitch and (tr, 2 dc) in the next st. “Magic Ring”, standing stitches and other matters of technique are “crocheter’s choice.”

Rounds 3 – 10 are worked in a double-crochet tapestry technique. Color changes are made by pulling new color through on the last yarn-over of the old color, and crocheting over the strand of color not in use. For Rounds 3 and 4 I will write out the directions in full.

Round 3: Join C with sl st in 6th st of any corner, ch 3, dc in next 2 st, changing to B with last yarn-over. Anniversary CAL Wk 3

Anniversary Mandala by Julie Yeager

Glad to see you all enjoying the pattern so far. At this point I am planning for 5 weeks of instructions. The first 4 weeks will complete one skein of the Caron Anniversary Cakes yarn; the fifth week will expand on the pattern for those using a thinner yarn and I’m not certain yet on how much yarn it uses.

If you need yarn, please consider purchasing through any of the links here on my blog and I will receive a small commission.  Check out the sales at Michaels,  purchase Stone Washed XL at Deramores or Wool Warehouse, or see what is new at KnitPicks/LoveCrochet, LoveCrafts, Yarnspirations, or Lion Brand.

If you look to the right on your laptop or scroll down on your phone, I am using a new email program to update you when there is a new blog post. Please subscribe; this will only be used for blog updates, news of new patterns, crochet and yarn news, yarn sales, and crafty things of interest and you can unsubscribe at any time.

You can use the Print Friendly button to print the pattern. Click on the title of this post and a new page will open and you will see a Print Friendly button at the end of the post. I will publish the full pattern on Ravelry and Etsy as a paid pattern if you would like to have a downloadable PDF.

Come share photos, ask for help, and discuss progress on my Facebook Group – Crochet-A-Long with JulieAnny and on my Ravelry Board – Julie Yeager Designs. Welcome Aboard New Customers – see Coupon Code for discount.

Round 23: Join Color A with sl st in any ch-5 sp, ch 3 (counts as dc), (dc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1) in same sp, [(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1) in next ch-5 sp] 47 times, sl st to top of beg ch-3. (192 dc, 96 ch-1 sp)

Round 23: Join Color A with sl st in any ch-4 sp, ch 3 (counts as dc), (dc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1) in same sp, [(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1) in next ch-4 sp] 47 times, sl st to top of beg ch-3. (192 dc, 96 ch-1 sp)

Round 24: Sl st in next st and in ch-1 sp, (ch 1, sc) in same sp, [ch 1, sk 2 st, (CL2, ch 2, CL2) in ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk 2 st, sc in ch-1 sp] 47 times, ch 1, sk 2 st, (CL2, ch 2, CL2) in ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk 2 st, sl st to first sc. (96 CL2, 48 sc, 48 ch-2 sp, 96 ch-1 sp)

Round 25: Sl st in ch-1 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, [3 sc in ch-2 sp, (sc in ch 1 sp) twice] 47 times, 3 sc in ch-2 sp, sc in ch 1 sp, sl st to first sc. (240 sc)

Round 26: Ch 1, sc in same st, (ch 3, sk 3 st, sc in next st) 59 times, ch 3, sk 3 st, sl st to first sc, fasten off. (60 sc, 60 ch-3 sp)

Welcome to Week One of our Anniversary Mandala CAL. Come Crochet Along and create your own unique mandala blanket in time for gift-giving. Instructions will be published here on the blog over the next three weeks (Oct 29, Nov 5, and Nov 12.) One gigantic skein of Caron Anniversary Cakes will result in a 50″ round blanket, just the right size for snuggling on the couch. Purchase yarn through my links and I will get a small commission, thanks! Michaels is having a 20% off sale through the end of the month, and also a buy one, get one at 50% sale this week.

I also worked the pattern in an aran weight yarn, Scheepjes Riverwashed XL, and it measures about 36″ across. I am working on an expansion for the blanket, details soon.

If you look to the right on your laptop or scroll down on your phone, I am using a new email program to update you when there is a new blog post. NOTE:  I designed this mandala for one cake of Caron Anniversary Cakes yarn.  I chose to cut the yarn after each color change, but I designed it to have very little waste.  If you choose not to cut the yarn it will look a little different but have the same general look.  For Round 1, I  began with the start of a new color. Starting with Round 23, the skein was beginning to collapse so I balled up the remaining yarn and used two sections of each color in sequence.  In this colorway, the two orange colors are so similar I used them as one color.  If you use a different colorway keep in mind that I did not cut the yarn between color 4 and 5 (the two very similar oranges.)

Tip: *Working with the cake yarn, the round will end with a little left of the color you are using.  I either cut the yarn or worked a slip stitch in the back loops for 10 or 20 stitches to hide, then started with the new color.  Of course, you can ignore color changes (where I indicate “fasten off”)  and just keep working for a very similar look.
