Garden State Afghan CAL - Week 3 - Julie Yeager Designs

Happy to see we are gathering more participants each week and so many are successfully Crocheting Along! As always, if you need help, please contact me via comments here, or email, but if I am not around at the moment, I encourage you to interact with fellow CALers on my Ravelry Board or my Facebook CAL group. For week 3 we have one 8″ motif, Amazing Flower (my favorite motif of the whole project,) and one easy 4″ motif, Star. The patterns are posted here and can be printed with the Print Friendly button. You can also download the pattern for free to store in your Ravelry library with coupon code #JULIEYEAGERGARDEN (expires June 30, 2016) at the Ravelry pattern page. Amazing Flower 8″ Motif

Special Stitches
FPdc (Front Post Double Crochet): Insert hook from the front side of work from right to left around post of indicated stitch on a previous row, yo, pull up a loop and work dc as usual.
FPtr (Front Post Triple Crochet): Yo twice, insert hook from the front side of work from right to left around post of indicated stitch on a previous row, yo, pull up a loop and work tr as usual.
FPsc (Front Post Single Crochet): Insert hook behind post of stitch (from front to back), yo, pull through, bring up even with last stitch completed, yo, pull through 2 loops (1 loop on hook)
Join new color with SC: Loop yarn on hook and insert into designated stitch. Yo and draw through, you have 2 loops on hook. Yo and draw through. You have joined the yarn with a sc.
V-Group – (2 hdc, ch 1, 2 hdc) in same st or designated sp
Dc3Tog (Double Crochet three stitches Together) – Double crochet to last step in each of three stitches, yo and draw through all 4 loops.
Instructions

Make 4 in 4 Colorways.

Round 1: With E (A, B, C), ch 4, join with sl st to form ring. Ch 3, 11 dc in ring, sl st to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (12 dc)
Round 2: Join A (B, C, D) with sl st around front post of any dc. Ch 5 (counts as dc and ch-2.) (FPdc around post of next dc, ch 2) x 11. Sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-5. Fasten off. (12 FPdc, 12 ch-2 sp)
Round 3: Join D (E, A, C) with sl st in any ch-2 sp. Ch 3, 2 dc in same sp. (3 dc in next ch-2 sp) x 11. Sl st to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (36 dc)
Round 4: Join A (B, C, D) with sl st in 2nd dc of any 3 dc group, ch 3. Dc in next st, (FPtr around post of FPdc in Round 2 below, dc in next 3 st in Round 3) x 11, FPtr around post of FPdc in Round 2 below, dc in next st. Sl st to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (36 dc, 12 FPtr)
Round 5: Join D (E, A, C) with sl st around the front of post of first dc of any 3-dc group in Round 3. Ch 3, FPtr around front post of this same st. (2 FPtr around front post of next dc in Round 3, (FPtr, FPdc) around front post of next dc in Round 3, (FPdc, FPtr) around front post of next dc in Round 3) x 12, omitting last 2 st. Sl st to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (72 st)
Round 6: (All stitches worked into Round 4.) Join MC with sl st in any FPtr of Round 4. (Ch 3, dc, ch 1, 2 dc in same st.) (Dc in next st, hdc in next 2 st, sc in next 5 st, hdc in next 2 st, dc in next st, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next st for corner) x 4, omitting last corner. Sl st to top of beg ch3. (64 st)
Round 7: Ch 3, dc in each st around, with (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) for corners. Sl st to top of beg ch-3. (80 st)

Round 8: Ch 3, dc in each st around, with (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) for corners. Sl st to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (96 st)

Instructions:

Make 4 in 4 Colorways.

Round 1: With A (B, C, D), ch 5, sl st to first ch to form ring. BCL3 (ch 3, CL3) x 5, ch 3, sl st to top of BCL3, fasten off. (6 CL3, 6 ch-3 sp)

Round 2: Join MC with sc in any ch-3 sp, 2 sc in same sp, (fpsc around top of next CL3, 3 sc in next ch-3 sp) x 5, fpsc around top of next CL3, sl st to beg sc. (24 st)

Round 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and in next st. (Hdc in next st, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next st for corner, hdc in next st, sc in next 3 st) x 4, omitting last 2 sc. Sl st to beg st. (32 st)

Round 4: Ch 3, dc in each st around, with (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in center st of each corner. Fasten off. (48 st)
