Junie Afghan Square for Granny Square Month CAL 2026

My included pattern is featured on Friday, June 5, 2026. Junie Afghan Square and is a textured, easily memorized square. Basic stitches, with some front and back post stitches, but it is an intermediate/adventurous beginner level square that packs a lot of punch!

Materials: Scheepjes Stone Washed XL (70% Cotton, 30% Acrylic, 50 g/ 75 m)
Color A: Beryl; B: Morganite; C: Coral; D: Tourmaline; E: Rhodochrosite; F: Red Jasper
Crochet Hook size I (5.5 mm)

Special Stitches and Abbreviations:

Beg – beginning bpsc – back post single crochet ch – chain dc – double crochet fpsc – front post single crochet sc – single crochet sk – skip sl – slip sp – space st – stitch
Join with sc – (Standing stitch) With slip knot on hook, insert hook into designated stitch, hook yarn, pull through, (two loops on hook,) YO, pull through two loops

Note: Ch 1 at the beginning of a round does not count as a stitch.

Round 1: With Color A, ch 4, sl st to first ch to form ring. Ch 1, 8 sc in ring, sl st to first sc. (8 sc)

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, (ch 3, sk 1 st, sc in next st) three times, ch 3, sk 1 st, sl st to first sc of round. (4 sc, 4 ch-3 sp)

Round 3: Ch 1, fpsc around same sc as join, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-3 sp, fpsc around sc] three times, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-3 sp, sl st to first st, fasten off. (24 dc, 4 fpsc, 4 ch-2 sp)

Round 4: Join Color B with sc in any ch-2 sp, (ch 2, sc) in same sp, [ch 3, sk 3 st, sc in fpsc, ch 3, sk 3 st, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp for corner] four times, omitting last corner, sl st to first sc. (12 sc, 8 ch-3 sp, 4 ch-2 sp)

Round 5: Ch 1, [fpsc around sc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, (fpsc around sc, 2 dc in ch-3 sp) twice] four times, sl st to first fpsc, fasten off. (32 dc, 12 fpsc, 4 ch-2 sp)

Round 6: Join Color C with sc in any corner ch-2 sp, (ch 2, sc) in same sp, [(ch 3, sk 2 st, bpsc around next fpsc) three times, ch 3, sk 2 st, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp for corner] four times, omitting last corner. Sl st to first sc. (12 bpsc, 8 sc, 16 ch-3 sp, 4 ch-2 sp)

Round 7: Ch 1, [fpsc around sc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-2 sp for corner, fpsc around sc, 2 dc in ch-3 sp, (fpsc around bpsc, 2 dc in ch-3 sp) three times] four times, sl st to first fpsc, fasten off. (40 dc, 20 fpsc, 4 ch-2 sp)

Round 8: Join Color D with sc in any corner ch-2 sp, (ch 2, sc) in same sp, [ch 1, sk dc, sc in fpsc, (ch 3, sk 2 st, sc in next fpsc) four times, ch 1, sk dc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp for corner] four times, omitting last corner. Sl st to first sc. (28 sc, 16 ch-3 sp, 8 ch-1 sp, 4 ch-2 sp)

Round 9: Ch 1, [fpsc around sc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-2 sp for corner, fpsc around sc, dc in ch-1 sp, (fpsc around sc, 2 dc in ch-3 sp) four times, fpsc around sc, dc in ch-1 sp] four times, sl st to first fpsc, fasten off. (48 dc, 28 fpsc, 4 ch-2 sp)

Round 10: Join Color E with sc in any corner ch-2 sp, (ch 2, sc) in same sp, [ch 3, sk 3 st, bpsc around fpsc, (ch 3, sk 2 st, bpsc around fpsc) four times, ch 3, sk 3 st, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp for corner] four times, omitting last corner. Sl st to first sc.(20 bpsc, 8 sc, 24 ch -3 sp, 4 ch-2 sp)

Round 11: Ch 1, [fpsc around sc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-2 sp for corner, fpsc around sc, 2 dc in ch-3 sp, (fpsc around bpsc, 2 dc in ch-3 sp) five times] four times, sl st to first fpsc, fasten off. (56 dc, 28 fpsc, 4 ch-2 sp)

Round 12: Join Color F with sc in any corner ch-2 sp, (ch 2, sc) in same sp, [ch 1, sk dc, (sc in fpsc, ch 3, sk 2 st) six times, sc in fpsc, ch 1, sk dc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp for corner] four times, omitting last corner. Sl st to first sc. (36 sc, 24 ch-3 sp, 8 ch-1 sp, 4 ch-2 sp)

Round 13: Ch 1, [fpsc around sc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-2 sp for corner, fpsc around sc, dc in ch-1 sp, (fpsc around sc, 2 dc in ch-3 sp) six times, fpsc around sc, dc in ch-1 sp ] four times, sl st to first fpsc, fasten off. (64 dc, 36 fpsc, 4 ch-2 sp)

Round 14: Join Color A with sc in any corner sp, (ch 2, sc) in same sp, [sc in next 25 st, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp] three times, sc in next 25 st, sl st to first sc, fasten off. Block lightly. (108 sc, 4 ch-2 sp)
