Week Five

If you would like to order the prepared yarn packs for the design, they are still available in my Deramores store.  Delivery to the U.S. is about a week to 10 days.

This week we begin the Concentric Squares.

Pattern is written in U.S.terms.

–  Ch-3 and ch-4 at beginning of round/row will count as dc/tr throughout.

–  Magic Ring, invisible joins, air crochet, and other matters of technique are “crocheter’s choice.”

–  All rounds/rows will be worked on the right side (RS) except for two border rounds which are indicated as wrong side (WS.)

Motif 3:   Concentric Square

Round 1:  With F (D), ch 4, join with sl st to form ring. (Alternatively, begin with Magic Circle.)  Ch 3, 11 dc in ring, sl st to top of beg ch-3.  (12 dc)

Round 2:  Ch 4, 2 dc in same st as join, [dc in next st, (2 dc, tr) in next st, (tr, 2 dc) in next st)] x 3, dc in next st, (2 dc, tr) in next st.  Sl st to top of beg ch-4.  (28 st, 7 per side)

Round 3:  Ch 4, 2 dc in same st as join, [dc in next 5 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st, (tr, 2 dc) in next st)] x 3, dc in next 5 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st.  Sl st to top of beg ch-4.  (44 st, 11 per side)

Round 4:  Ch 4, 2 dc in same st as join, [dc in next 9 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st, (tr, 2 dc) in next st)] x 3, dc in next 9 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st.  Sl st to top of beg ch-4.  (60 st, 15 per side)

Round 5:  Join D(C) with sc in corner sp (between the tr,) ch 1, sc in same sp,[(ch 1, sk 1 st, sc next st) 7 times, ch 1, sk 1 st, ( sc, ch 1, sc) in corner sp (between the tr)] three times, (ch 1, sk 1 st, sc next st) 7 times, ch 1, sk 1 st, sl st to beg sc. Fasten off.

Round 6: Join B (B) with sl st in any corner ch-1 sp, ch 3 (counts as hdc and ch 1), hdc in same sp, (ch 1, hdc in skipped st in round 4, working around and enclosing the ch-1 of Round 5) 8 times, ch 1, (hdc, ch1, hdc) in corner ch-1 sp] three times, (ch 1, hdc in skipped st in round 4, working around and enclosing the ch-1 of Round 5) 8 times, ch 1, sl st to 2nd ch of beg ch-3. Fasten off.

Round 7: Join E(A) with sl st to any corner, ch 3 (counts as dc),  2 dc in next ch-1 sp and each ch-1 sp around, with 2 dc in corner spaces. Dc in same sp as beg, sl st to top of beg ch-3. (80 dc.)

Round 8:  Ch 4, 2 dc in same st as join, [dc in next 18 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st, (tr, 2 dc) in next st)] x 3, dc in next 18 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st.  Sl st to top of beg ch-4.  (96 st, 24 per side)

Round 9: Ch 4, 2 dc in same st as join, [dc in next 22 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st, (tr, 2 dc) in next st)] x 3, dc in next 22 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st.  Sl st to top of beg ch-4.  (112 st, 28 per side)

Round 10: Ch 4, 2 dc in same st as join, [dc in next 26 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st, (tr, 2 dc) in next st)] x 3, dc in next 26 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st.  Sl st to top of beg ch-4.  (128 st, 32 per side)

Round 11: Ch 4, 2 dc in same st as join, [dc in next 30 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st, (tr, 2 dc) in next st)] x 3, dc in next 30 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st.  Sl st to top of beg ch-4.  (144 st, 36 per side)

Round 12: Ch 4, 2 dc in same st as join, [dc in next 34 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st, (tr, 2 dc) in next st)] x 3, dc in next 34 st, (2 dc, tr) in next st.  Sl st to top of beg ch-4. Fasten off. (160 st, 40 per side)

Round 13: Join D(C) with sc in corner sp (between the tr,) ch 1, sc in same sp,[(ch 1, sk 2 st, sc next st), (ch 1, sk 1 st, sc next st) 18 times, ch 1, sk 1 st, ( sc, ch 1, sc) in corner sp (between the tr)] three times, (ch 1, sk 2 st, sc next st),(ch 1, sk 1 st, sc next st) 18 times, ch 1, sk 1 st, sl st to beg sc. Fasten off.

Round 14:  Join B (B) with sl st in any corner ch-1 sp, ch 3 (counts as hdc and ch 1), hdc in same sp, [ch 1, sk sc, hdc in 2nd skipped st in round 12, working around and enclosing the ch-1 of Round 13, (ch 1, sk sc, hdc in next skipped st in Round 12 in same manner) 19 times, ch 1, sk sc,* (hdc, ch1, hdc) in corner ch-1 sp] four times, ending last repeat at *, sl st to 2nd ch of beg ch-3. Fasten off.

  1. Would you please confirm the colors for May Morning? The final three squares call for mustard (G), cloud blue (B), citron (F), and Kelly (H). At what point do we use grass (D)? It was not used in any of the previous squares. Also, it would be really helpful to have photos of all of the squares using the May Morning colorway. Are there any and, if so, where can I find them?

    1. Yes, these colors are correct. Grass is the final area of color in all three Concentric Square blocks, and also the final round of the border. Plus is used for the triangle leaves appliques. I don’t have any photos, sorry.
