Garden State Afghan CAL – Week 5

This week’s patterns are a little late; my apologies.  Hope everyone is enjoying the pattern and CAL.    As always, if you need help, please contact me via comments here,  or email,  but if I am not around at the moment, I encourage you to interact with fellow CALers on my Ravelry Board or my Facebook CAL group.  We also love to see photos of work in progress!  Another suggestion for help would be the wonderful tutorial photos and VIDEO put together by Iris van Meer on her blog.  The video is in Dutch only but for those who need a visual it may be helpful no matter your language.  Thanks, Iris!  And just a reminder that Yarn Packs in the Suggested Scheepjes Stone Washed XL are still available at Deramores.

For week 5 we have the 8″ motif, Pretty Posy, and the 4″ motif, Simple Loops, and you will work each 4 times in different colorways.  The pattern is posted here and can be printed with the Print Friendly button.  You can also download the pattern for free to store in your Ravelry library with coupon code #JULIEYEAGERGARDEN (expires 6/30/2016) at the Ravelry pattern page.  Please make a Ravelry project page and share your photos there.  Please do not share the code anywhere on the internet, but encourage people to come here to see the code.  If anyone sees the code shared online please let me know.

As always, thanks to my wonderful testers and to Iris van Meer for her Dutch translation.  Thanks also to Eunbi in Colorado Springs for her Korean translation .

Garden State Afghan CAL – Week 2

I’m happy to see you all Crocheting Along!

I hope by now it is clear that each motif is repeated 4 times in different colorways.  When I say use Color A (B, C, D) it means your first motif in A, second in B, etc.  These guidelines are used to conform with the amounts of yarn in the kit.  If you are using your own stash yarn and are less concerned with amounts, use any colors.  Use MC when called for.     When I made my sample, I unfortunately did not think about yarn amounts so my photos do not match assigned colors, but do as I say, not as I did.   🙂

For week 2 we have one 8″ motif, Loopy,   and one 4″ motif, Small Daisy.  The patterns are posted here and can be printed with the Print Friendly button.  You can also download the pattern for free to store in your Ravelry library with coupon code #JULIEYEAGERGARDEN (expires June 30, 2016) at the Ravelry pattern page.  Please make a Ravelry project page and share your photos there.  The schedule for the remaining installments is as follows:

Week 3, 4/15 – 4” Star and 8” Amazing
Week 4, 4/22 – 12” Happy Flower
Week 5, 4/29 – 4” Simple Loops and 8” Pretty Posy

Welcome to The Garden State Afghan Crochet A Long.  I designed this afghan in 2013 but recently made some minor changes and added a new border suggestion.  The pattern will be released for free over a period of 8 weeks here on the blog and on Ravelry with coupon code #JULIEYEAGERGARDEN (expires June 30, 2016.)  Please use #JULIEYEAGERGARDEN to tag your photos as well.  Please chat about the pattern on my Ravelry Board and on my Facebook CAL page.  (If this link doesn’t work, please put  “Crochet A Long with JulieAnny” in your Facebook search box.)  We have over 6000 members and all are welcome!  See all my designs in my Ravelry Store, Etsy shop, and on Loveknitting.com.  Yarn Pack in the Suggested Scheepjes Stone Washed XL still available at Deramores.  Thanks to Iris van Meer for her Dutch Translation of the pattern which you can follow on her blog and will also be available on Ravelry.

The Garden State Afghan

By Julie Yeager Designs

Pattern uses American crochet terms.

The Garden State Afghan reflects a profusion of flowers scattered across the grass.  Constructed in three sizes of portable squares, crocheting your afghan will provide you with hours of enjoyment as you let your creative powers flow.

There are 14 separate patterns, and each pattern is repeated four times.  If you are using the suggested yarn, follow instructions for color changes, but if you are using stash and less concerned with amounts, just use Main Color (MC) when called for.  Since the last revision, a few changes were made to help the blocks fit together more easily.  Stitch counts are designed to fit together perfectly.

Materials

Suggested Yarn:  Scheepjes Stone Washed XL (75 meters per 50 g skein)

A:  Carnelian, 4 skeins       B:  Canada Jade, 3 skeins       C: New Jade, 2 skeins    D:  Rose Quartz, 3 skeins    E:  Pink Quartzite, 3 skeins           MC:  Amazonite, 20 skeins

New Afghan Square Design – English Garden Afghan Square

Here is my new 12″ Afghan Square Pattern – Called English Garden Afghan Square.  I was inspired by lovely formal gardens and the misty bright colors of Scheepjes Stone Washed XL.  This design is currently for sale on Ravelry and would look wonderful as a full afghan.  I was thinking of switching up the colors on each block but using the same pattern for all squares.

The pattern is suitable for the intermediate crocheter or adventurous beginner.  There are a few rounds which require very careful pattern-reading but it’s fun with a satisfying result.  I am presenting this block as a guest designer on Margaret MacInnis’ Ravelry board, where we are CAL’ing to 12″ afghan blocks in her BAMMM SHAZAAM 2016 CAL.  Check it out!  Here is a discount coupon code to take $3.00 off the price, good until end of 2016.  BAMMM2016
