Caron X Pantone (pronounced Caron and Pantone) is a perfectly coordinated fun little yarn composed of five mini-hanks of 20 g, about 25 yards each of five colors in an aran-weight acrylic/nylon/wool blend. Recommended needle size is 6 mm (US 10 or US K hook) but I think it works well on smaller needles/hooks as well. Right now it is only available at Michaels store and Michael’s online. Regular price is $7.99 but I paid $4.80 with a 40% off coupon. I had great fun separating the five mini-hanks. They have to be wound before use; I looped the mini-hank across the top screen of my laptop to unwind and hand rolled them into little center-pull balls. The yarn is silky smooth and fun to work with. The 9 plies tend to separate (split) but its silky character makes it easy to frog and easy to untangle. This link will lead you to the Michael’s site with a hank of plain off-white, but click on over to Faerie Cakes or any of 25 other pretty options. I am working on a fairisle hat design with this yarn but in the meantime I have to show you what I made: This Baa-ble hat (bairns version) by Donna Smith is one of my favorite patterns to knit and it looks so pretty in this yarn. I used Faerie Cake and a little bit of dark brown from another skein. I miscounted my gauge so I’m going to rip it out and start over but just wanted to show the beautiful colors. Click here for the off-white, but click through and purchase anything at the Michael’s site and I will get a commission. Thanks!
